This policy applies to UKSpeedTest.co.uk (“Pulse”). We are committed to handling your data in a transparent, lawful way.
Who we are
Pulse and UKSpeedTest.co.uk are a free tool from BroadbandSwitch.uk, operated by Upleashed Limited (Isle of Man company 021517V, registered office Sycamore House, Glen Duff, Lezayre, Isle of Man, IM7 2AT; registered with the Isle of Man Information Commissioner, R697728). The speed test runs in your browser and is aimed at UK consumers and small businesses.
What we process and why
- IP address and network name: When you load the test, your browser asks the test edge (Cloudflare, at speed.cloudflare.com) for its view of your connection: your public IP address, the network it belongs to, an approximate city and which Cloudflare location you reached. This is shown to you on the page with the IP partly masked. UKSpeedTest does not receive or store it. Cloudflare processes your IP address to answer that request and to serve the test data, under Cloudflare's privacy policy. Our hosting provider may keep standard server logs for security and reliability.
- Speed test: The test runs entirely in your browser against Cloudflare's public speed test edge. We do not receive or store your speed results or precise location on our servers.
- Approximate location: The city or region shown comes from the same test edge response above, worked out from your IP address. It is approximate, is never precise coordinates, and is not stored by us. Earlier versions of Pulse used a separate IP lookup service; version 6 (October 2026) no longer does.
- Analytics: If you have accepted analytics, we may use third-party tools (for example Google Analytics and Ahrefs) to understand how the site is used. That may involve processing of identifiers. We do not use analytics to store speed test results or to identify you personally.
- Optional storage in your browser: If you allow functional storage, Pulse keeps your last 20 results (speeds, ping, grade, date, the network name and whether you said you were on Wi-Fi or a cable) in your own browser so you can compare over time, plus your test length and profile choices. You can clear results from the results panel at any time. Your last download figure is also kept for the current tab so the download time calculator can offer it. None of this leaves your browser. - Sharing a result: If you use the share buttons, the numbers you choose to share are put in the link or image you send. Nothing is sent to us.
Cookies, storage, and consent
We use a consent banner so you can choose optional analytics and optional functional storage. Essential cookies and storage are needed for the site to work and to remember your choices. Service worker
The site may register a service worker to cache static assets for reliability. This is an operational feature, not used to track you across other sites.
Lawful basis
Where we or our partners process personal data, we rely on consent (for example for non-essential analytics) or legitimate interests (for example security, improving the service), as applicable under UK GDPR.
Retention
We do not retain your speed test data or IP address on our systems. Any analytics data is subject to our analytics providers’ retention policies; we do not keep it longer than necessary for the stated purposes.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have rights including: access, rectification, erasure, restriction, and objection. To exercise them, contact us using the details on BroadbandSwitch.uk. You also have the right to complain to the ICO (ico.org.uk).
